Oops. previous messsage was sent prematurely. I read the previous
messages as suggesting Narcissa wasn't thinking straight and was
desperate, or that she had thrown in with Harry and the OOP either
because she believed Harry is invincible or she has turned against LV.

I am not sure she ever believed in LV. She does not seem political
to me. I am sure JR wanted this scene to be another demonstration of
mother love, just like the fight between Molly and Bella to come.
Just how far will a mother go to save her child? I am sure Narcissa
takes the risk for Draco, but I am sceptical of the likelihood of any
benefit, i.e. getting to the castle faster. Maybe she was just
desperate.
