why is there still a Sorting Hat?

> Joey: <snip> School houses are a common feature and competition is
healthy as long it is not overdone. Sorting Hat just segregates
students based on their actual or rather want-to-be personalities so
that they can all be together in a single house. So, Sorting Hat is
still kept.
Laura replies:
I know that houses are a common feature of private schools, but aren't
the kids sorted into them randomly? I don't think that JKR said
anything about changes to the sorting process; that was my assumption
based on Ginny's and Hermione's remarks. I got the idea that all the
houses were supposed to be equally respectable now, but that with Ron
and in some degree for Harry, old feelings die hard.

Laura replies:
I agree. It's an ominous name. I'm not sure that Draco learned a
thing.

Laura replies:
Again, I agree. I think that Harry feels enormous guilt about the
deaths of Teddy's parents. Although he and Remus made their peace to
some degree in the forest, Harry will always feel sadness and regret
about Remus.

Thanks, Joey!
