said so, in an interview where she assumed it was obvious from the
text that the Slytherins came back with Slughorn to fight. That's
what she meant the text to clearly imply. She wasn't intentionally
leaving the text open to interpretation.

Pippin:
I'm not so sure. The way I hear it, in her mind that is when the
Slytherins came back, no doubt about it, and she expected some people
to pick up on that just as she expected some people to pick up on
Dumbledore being gay, no doubt about that either. And I think some
people did. But she intentionally didn't make it explicit in the
text. Among other things, it wasn't important to Harry.

If the return of the Slytherins was important to Harry, if it was what
convinced Harry that House shouldn't make any difference to him, then
that would have been a major plot point and he should have noticed
the Slytherins there.

But that's not what convinced him. It's Snape's bravery that mattered.
That's what he speaks of to Albus. Once he'd learned about that, he
had to realize that what Lupin told him was true: he'd been determined
to hate Snape because he was prejudiced.

And if Harry was determined that House wouldn't make a difference to
him any more, it wouldn't be important that there were Slytherins who
came back with Slughorn, any more than it was important that there
were witches, or Asians or gays, or any other distinction that's
inconsequential to the ability to fight for Hogwarts.

It really isn't good Slytherins that are invisible or non-existent.
It's true, Harry can't say, "Slytherins are good guys, and they won't
hurt you unless you give them a reason." But he can't say that about
any human.

What's missing, IMO, is *cool* Slytherins. It would definitely help,
if Harry could have told Albus, "Hey, Slytherins are cool. They
fought with me in the battle of Hogwarts."

But Harry doesn't care about that, because being cool isn't important
to him any more. Of course even if he had said it, it wouldn't have
cut any ice with Al. Parents just don't understand about cool. ;)
