I tend to believe that Voldemort must have placed some kind
of curse upon anyone who spoke his name before he lost
his powers. Maybe it was something similar to what was
done in DH, or it could have been something else. The fact
that he was able to conjure such a curse showed just how
powerful Voldemort was and only made everyone that much
more fearful of him.
