I think JKR intended us to believe that Stan was Imperiused, otherwise why mention his "strangely blank face"? Other victims of the Imperius curse didn't walk around with blank faces, everyone would have known they were Imperiused :-)! Then why does she specifically say that Stan's face was blank? To show us (and Harry) that he was under the curse, IMO :-).
