I think this is the hole to which you were you were referring. ;-).
 
I'm certain that Quirrell was possessed before the Leaky Cauldron  meeting. 
 Quirrell was in Albania prior to returning to Hogwarts for  the new term.  
And I think (might be movie contamination though) that  DD made a comment 
about Quirrell returning from Albania with *more* than he  expected.
