I'm sure we have all read the books. Thats why we are here. The point being made is that Sna;e's request is a "necessary" precondition of the ove magic, because it gave Lily a choice. The recurring theme of "choice". Without Snape's request, Lily could have loved Harry more than any mother ever loved her child and she could have cast all the spells she wanted and it would have been of no effect. Nothing unusual would have happened.
