Right, the book doesn't state directly that "Harry was dripping mud", but it is mentioned at the beginning of the chapter that Harry was returning from the Quidditch pitch all "splattered with mud" (p.122). It is logical to assume that at least some of that mud got to the floors. Of course it is not a direct statement, but still, it can work :-).
