was Barty Jr's childhood like, to lead him to that decision?
Lynda:
My answer to this question is simple and rather blunt, and therefore may not be appreciated by some people. It's simply this. He joined Voldemort because he was an evil git. His father was distant and perfectionistic. So what. Yes, that can cause problems, but Harry himself was raised in similar, even worse, conditions by the Dursleys and didn't turn out the same way. Dumbledore changed his life upon realizing that his behavior directly led to the death of his sister. Even Dudley had an enlightenment of a sort by the end of the series, as did the Malfoys to an extent. Barty Jr. was just evil.
