AM - I actually think it was to make Narcissa feel bad. A boy, the same age as Draco, dead or badly hurt, as Narcissa fears her son is; what better way to be cruel than to make her check Harry's condition? It's the same motivation that makes Voldemort choose Hagrid to carry Harry's supposed corpse. He wants to make people feel bad.
