I didn't say anything about Hermione having rotten teeth. SSSusan started out by asking why so many witches are described as having rotten or yellow teeth and wondered why that would be.
Several posts later Geoff offered an article about British attitudes on elective dental care and how that compares to the US attitude. I brought it back to canon by discussing Hermione's parents who are British dentists and their opinion about adjusting Hermione's teeth. I don't think Hermione had braces at all, but I don't have the book available to check. Anyway, she was able to use magic, so it was done without their input.
