Actually, it was LV that made Kreacher drink the potion (to see if it would work). Regulus had Kreacher take him back to show him what had happened to him, and it was what LV did to Kreacher that finally pushed Regulus over the edge. Regulus sacrificed himself, not knowing that there were 5 other horcruxes (6, if you include Harry). Kreacher watched as Regulus drank the potion and that's why Kreacher loves Regulus so much.
