Margie:
I'll comment on this subject since I have had practical experience. My
mother died when I was 13 and in the 39 years since then, only two people
have mentioned her to me and only one has voluntarily told me stories about
her. Most people are not comfortable talking about someone who has died
with one of their loved ones at least until they get to know the person
pretty well.
Even though I was 13 and not an infant as Harry was, I didn't "know" my
mother as a person by any means and I did wonder about her. I didn't ask
adults about her even later in life for a lot of reasons. It isn't an easy
subject to bring up and most of the time, when I was around someone who knew
her well, there were lots of other people around.
