Actually at the end of The Philosopher's Stone Hagrid did give Harry
a book with pictures of his parents in it. There was also a picture
from their wedding day with Sirius as best man (that was revealed in
Prisoner of Azkaban). There were little hints all the way through the
books they just didn't come right out and give all the information at
once because who is going to read the rest of the books if they
already know everything.

Sorry if you take offence to me saying this but it is the truth.
