Could you explain what you mean by "no one else was around to care"? Surely all the older generation on the platform remembered Snape vividly. And we all know how obsessive fans are (who, us?) -- those people gawking at Harry on the platform will surely know every detail of their hero's  life that's a matter of record, including what he named his son and why.
