Steve:

As Harry and Hagrid escape in the 'Seven Potters' chapter of 
the last book, Harry's side car breaks away for Hagrid's 
motorcycle and begins to free fall, until Harry perform the
Levitation spell to save himself. 

One assumes if a wizard has a wand, it is pretty hard to die
in an accident. I believe it was even said that Dumbledore 
could have saved himself from the fall from the tower, if he
had had his wand available. Though one would assume under
this circumstance that he had not been hit with a killing
curse. That pretty much overrides everything.

And Hagrid is outraged at the idea that Harry's parent could
have been killed in a car accident.
