But Harry seemed like the Golden Boy when he first arrived. There's a long description just before the first potions class, about students whispering about Harry Potter and going out of their way to see Harry Potter. So by the time Snape has contact with Harry, he seems a Golden Boy.
Snape, of course, saw what he expected to see, and most of what followed was made to fit with his beliefs. By the same token, so did the other teachers. So it's hard to tell which ones really saw Harry Potter and which ones saw what they expected to.
