Magical Contracts are not the same as Muggle contracts. We know for example, that House Elves must work for their Wizard families unless freed(sacked) by the gift of clothing. It doesn't matter that the "gift" was unintended or even that the wizard didn't know clothing was involved. Lucius Malfoy accidentally freed Dobby when Harry put his own sock in the diary. Very similar to what happened with the Goblet of Fire.
