At the risk of being pedantic, I could say "That ain't necessarily so..."
:-)
Certainly in the early references in HBP Chapter 23 "Horcruxes",
both Slughorn in the Pensieve conversation with Tom Riddle and
Dumbledore in his follow up discussion with Harry merely talk about
a soul being split, neither specifying "in half".
Even under those circumstances, the soul might not split EXACTLY
equally so that there is a probability that your hypothesis might
not be correct.
