I can sort of see where you're coming from.  Umbridge was the character 
that made me most angry when I first read the books, the one apart from 
Voldemort who I really hated.  Without her though, would Dumbledore's 
Army have ever been set up?  All that teaching of others Harry did 
certainly helped build his confidence and also meant that others were 
ready to fight when the time came.  So in a way, yes I suppose you could 
say that Umbridge did in a round about way, help to prepare Harry and 
the others for what was coming.
