Wand allegiance

I can't really answer this question, it seems to me that Rowling has simply failed to think this through. Frankly it makes no sense. In the first place it was impossible for Dumbledore to gain allegiance of the Elder Wand, since --as I understand it-- Grindlewald had not been master of the Elder Wand either. So it would be impossible for Dumbledore to gain the allegiance of the Elder Wand by defeating Grindelwald. 
Simply put, this is just another plothole/inconsistency inside the book.
