Sir-  She had 18 months. Lily & James were well aware that what they were doing was dangerous & could easily result in their deaths. It would be a poor magickal parent who wouldn't begin weaving the strongest protective magick they could find around their child. The magick was already in place-  Lily's death was the trigger that activated it, when it was needed.
