  Looking for good HP fic - you have to kiss a lot of toads before you find a prince. One quick way is to look for rec sites online - such as the now-defunct Crack Van - http://crack-van.livejournal.com/tag/harry%20potter - that's the Harry Potter tag for you. Scroll through the summaries until  you find something that interests you re storyline. Rec sites are a  brilliant way of cutting through the dross quickly.
  Another one to consider is the Crack Broom http://crack-broom.livejournal.com/ although it tends to be pairing-specific so might not be what you're looking for. Happy hunting!
