 Well, maybe.
 If pure canon, he got good attention from Tom at the Leaky (for a total of about 3 minutes, maybe) and Florean at the ice cream store (only adult in the books that actually took any time to be with Harry) and the occasional weirdo supposedly shook his hand when he was a small child out with his “family” (which makes absolutely no sense, given JKR's later insistence that magicals seldom went into the Muggle world and the Dursleys' hatred of non-normal, so I am sure Harry got severely punished for letting some weirdo come up to him)  but there weren’t any other times I can think of off the top of my head. He didn’t get fan mail (hate mail and howlers seemed like the only mail he ever got), he didn’t get any thanks other than having his house stolen for a memorial and a statue in GH (which seemed more of a state secret than a real memorial) and I can't remember any good press—and he may not have been ANYTHING to the rest of the world.
