And that's the problem - it's why every director I know uses some sort of  

"little figures", whether it's Lego figures, pennies, squares of paper, or,
in  my case, a different Disney Princess (+ Ursula) for each of the Steel
Magnolias.  Not only are the ones given sometimes too vague, they're
sometimes unworkable with real people & current stage tech.
