Dumbledore. Sure, Umbridge, Voldemort, Bellatrix, were bad characters, but
we knew they were. They didn’t hide their evil. Dumbledore was willing to
sacrifice absolutely anyone for his version of the so-called greater good.
Good men working in secret and getting away with it because nobody
questions them, is much more frightening to me, than those who are
obviously doing bad things. You know what to expect from the evil ones, but
the good guys can be just as bad in very different ways.

I have to agree. Umbridge and Bellatrix made me crazy. Voldie was scary,
but one rarely actually faced him–usually one faced his death eaters who
carried out his work. But Dumbledore was convinced that he knew best for
everyone and had the right to make decisions "for the greater good." Many
people feel they know what is "right" but most of them don't have the power
to enact their vision. I think they were both Dark Lords but one of them
proclaimed it loudly and proudly whereas the other pretended to be "of the
light" and if you doubted him at all, he was hurt and disappointed. Or
angry, and then he took away your privileges/rights. We know why Harry was
sent to the Dursleys, but even after he knew how they treated him, he left
Harry there because it suited HIM. Both Voldemort and Dumbledore worked
outside the government (even though Dumbledore was also involved in the
government) and felt they had the right to force their views and beliefs on
everyone else.
