As long as we are talking about the lake, here's my question: How big is the darn lake?!
In GoF it talks about how Hermione and Harry walk around the lake together a few timesbut I don't see how the could walk around the entire thing along the edge.  We know it extends to Hogsmede b/c the first years get on boats on teh lake from Hogsmede station and that the lake extends up under part of the castle (for reference see PS (or SS)  when they arrive at hogwarts.  I'm wondering maybe there is a section of the lake that branches out to the castle and the students can walk around this part with the help of bridges.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?
