But, he *believes* he has left forever, which gives the idea that he isn't totally convinced. And Snape has good reason for not showing up at the DE reunion--nobody can apparate or disapparate on Hogwarts grounds, so he *could* go groveling back to Voldemort with that excuse and continue to be a spy for Dumbledore.
