One name that might have been a weird
coincidence was in the Order of the Phoenix. When Harry was
talking to Dudley on the playground giving him a hard time about
beating up a 10 year old boy, he said something like "I know you
did Mark Evans last week". Of course Lily's maiden name was Evans.
Maybe she meant to tie those up together or just threw it out
there and didn't catch it. Not sure.
JKR has no equal when it comes to creating names. I was just
chuckling the other day over how awesome Xenophilius Lovegood's
name is. "a lover (philius) of things that are different or
unusual (xeno)." She really is a literary genius.
I was going to ask you all - at what point during reading SS for
the first time did you realize it was something really special?
For me I remember by the time they were on the Hogwarts Express
and the pictures in the chocolate frog cards moved, and then at
Hogwarts when the portraits moved and talked, I knew it was
something really different and amazing.

I am so delighted others are up for a discussion of the
books. Still wondering about really reading together, but
at least we can discuss thoughts as I go. I have honestly
forgotten how addictive these books can be in truth! Well
not forgotten, but it is a different degree of fun when
you do not have to wait for the next publication. You are
screaming what?, at the end..Then can reach for the next
one. The choice of names, the blending of the real and the
perhaps fictional is fascinating me at the moment. For
example I had thought one very important name was a fake.
That is until Google did Hedy Lamar's doodle the other
day. Still, did Rowling ever repeat a name? Has she ever
talked about how she chose them? One more, what detail
from the first few chapters of Ss, or PS if in the United
Kingdom, would you most like to have seen explored more
fully? I will share, but want to give others a chance as
well. Kare
