Can I just say how ecstatic I was to hear you all
hadstarted up this group! Thank you, thank you, thank
you!!!! Haven't had the time until now to do a real
intro. Randy did his last night after I fell asleep
on the couch (too much wine). OKay
onward....bouncing...

THE OLD CROWD INTRO

***Name:
Carole Estes

***Nicknames/IDs:
siriusgeologist (on yahooY!M!)
siriologist (on livejournal)

***Age:
41

***Family:
DH (dear hubby)- Randy (see his ramble a few messages
ago). 3 boy-children (9, 6, and 4). A mom in PA, a
Dad (local) and a sister who isn't speaking to me.
Assorted neices and nephews who are speaking to me,
and a whole slew of in-laws who actually like us.

***Home

In Lakeland, Florida. 45 miles from Disney World.
It's really a little gem of a community. Big enough
to have shopping and restaurants and conveniences, but
not big enough to have long commutes, traffic, or
other inconveniences. It's a great place to raise
families, which is why we moved back here after a
brief stint in Massachusetts. (We lived here for 5
years before most of you met me).

***Birthday, Place of Birth:
January 6, 1962 in Rahway, New Jersey, but only spent
6 months there. Was raised where my mom was raised,
went to the same elementary school as she did and had
her as a sixth grade teacher. Oh, too much
info...ok...all that happened in Chester County
Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.

***Education/Job/Role in Life etc:
BS in Geological Oceanography from Florida Inst. of
Tech. MS in Geology from Univ. of South Florida.
Am currently a consulting hydrogeologist. Most of my
work is for municipalities that need more water or
need to get rid of their treated effluent. I also do
regular contamination assessment (fuel spills from
underground storage tanks, etc) in between hydro
assignments.

***Other things we might want to know about you:
Errrrrrr, do you really want to know? MOst of you
know about my fanfic epic with Penny (A Sirius
Affair)and the sequel I'm nearly done with (A Sirius
Change) but am toying with the idea of actually
writing something other than fanfic after I'm done.
Will keep you posted.

***First contact with Harry Potter:
January, 2000. During one of our Massachusetts move my
oldest son's 1st grade teacher gave him "HP and the
SS" and "The Hobbitt" as a leaving gift. I read it to
see if it was appropriate for him. I then absconded
with his copy and bought the other two in quick
succession. Read them all to me and him and went
looking for a discussion group. (Has it really been
more than 3 years???)

***Favourite Potter things (books, characters, ships,
fics, objets
d'Art, general enthusing):
BOOKS: PoA is the best so far. I can read that one
more often than the rest, followed by GoF, SS and CoS

OBJECTS: I'm not a collectables type of gal. Had a
Hogwarts mug that the emblem wore off of, buit I still
use the mug although I just bought a Nimbus Mug.

CHARACTERS: Sirius, Sirius, and did I mention Sirius?

SHIPS: Harry/Hermione, Draco/Ginny, Sirius/Believable
Original Character, I could even see Harry/Ginny
(don't beat me Penny) depending on how she's written
in future books.

FANFIC: PoU was my intro into the world of fanfic,
and I still keep up with HWTF, but I haven't had time,
since going back to work nearly full time, to start or
keep up with anything else. I help MOD the PoU list,
so if nothing else I keep up with those stories
through the discussion there.

NIMBUS: Am logistical coordinator for Nimbus. (I deal
with the inanimate things).

***Extent of Potter obsession:

I'd say mild to moderate, but friends and family on
the outside think I'm nuts.

***Other interests/activities:
Diana Gabaldon yahoo!group. Stained glass, but
haven't done any since kids. Running kids here and
there. Dabbling at writing.

***Current/recent reading:
Current: "Into the Wilderness" by Sarah Donati.
Recent: "Cereleon Sins" by Laurell K. Hamilton (but
was very very dispointed in it, was an Anita Blake fan
before that, but am reconsidering.)
Looking forward to "To the Nines" by Janet Evanovitch,
due out in July just about Nimbus time.

***Current/recent listening:
Santana's "Shaman" is playing on my walkman while I
treadmill at lunch. I keep going back to the
soundtrack for "The Wild Thornberry's Movie" It is a
really good compilation of fun, world beat type music
including Sting, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, Hugh
Maskela, and the Pretenders. I highly recommend it
even if you didn't see the movie.

***Current/recent viewing:

West Wing, and er are about the only TV I watch.
Loved "Finding Nemo" actually saw "The Matrix" so now
I need to see the second one, but probably will see it
on DVD.

I guess that about covers it and my time is up, gotta
go do Father's Day stuff for Randy. Am so excited
about this group. I feel like I have a home again :)

Carole
