Ahem.
I feel Harry's experience level is just about right for his age, as
well. Harry is *shy*, too, and up until this point had never kissed a
girl. His terrible first kiss, his awful date - I loved them, they
seemed real, and kept me smiling through this very dark book.
I have to wonder, after the swimming pool of ellipses that was the
Harry/Cho kiss, if JKR actually...maybe...hates writing romance? Just
a thought. She's so determinedly unsentimental and she skirts the
issue so widely, save when it crops up to humorous effect, I wonder
if perhaps she just isn't one of those writers who likes romance and
therefore we will never get any Twu Wuv in canon? Which would be just
fine with me.
