Actually we learned in Order of the Phoenix that Harry's middle name *is* 
James, as had so long been suspected.

And I think we also learned that Hagrid's mother was dead, didn't we? (I 
just finished re-reading the book, and I'm farily certain I read that.)

My thoughts on the Half Blood Prince is that it might be - if it *is* 
someone we already know - Seamus. He makes a point of saying in book one 
that he is a halfblood.
