There's also a bit of a sort of reverse Chekhov's gun thingy going
on here, isn't there? From the point of view of someone who reads
only the books and pays no attention to the froth of auctions,
interviews and the like, this chracter is sprung out of nowhere,
after the reader has been given an RAB clue and an existing RB
character. Amy Benson would be OK, but not great-uncle Regulus, IMO.
The mystery that JKR is interested in keeping difficult for us is
*how* the locket was substituted, not who did it. The ol' locked
room mystery.
