Oh, good someone else thought of that too. But if motives were enough, 
DD wouldn't have needed to say all those spells as he and Harry flew 
into the castle. In fact, I would have thought Hogwarts would recognise 
DD. Unless of course, all his muttering of spells was for some other 
purpose.
