Hi --
First, I'm so thrilled that we're moving ahead with this! Great!!!
Navigation Categories: Do they need to be limited to one word
categories? The draft Table of Contents (Index) that I created last
month has the following big categories:
JKR (because she didn't really fit anywhere else in my scenario)
The World of Harry Potter (Character Accents, Geography, Hogwarts,
Quidditch, Romance Pairings, etc.)
Characters (this would be "People" in Steve's scheme)
Appeal & Criticism (Book-Banning, Lawsuits, Race & HP, Religion &
HP, Universal Appeal)
I had a blank for the next category but Steve's use of "Fandom"
works for me (Audio, Fanfic, Merchandise, Movie, etc.)
Wizarding World (Clothing, Economy, Govt, Magical Devices, Mythology
& Magical Creatures, Social Issues, Spells, Wands)
So ...... can we mesh these 2 approaches together perhaps? People &
Fandom can clearly be meshed easily (we could even throw the JKR FAQ
into "People" I suppose). Where would my concepts of The World of HP,
Appeal & Criticism & Wizarding World fit into your scheme, Steve?
Places would be just the Geography FAQ, wouldn't it?
Others may have comments on the font -- it seems fine to me.
Question: I know this is a draft, but will there be active links for the
webpages that are cited? What about the message numbers? We talked at
one point about having it set up so that if someone wanted to link
directly from a message citation to the actual message in the Archives,
it would take them there. But, now that we're archiving messages
elsewhere, this may definitely be more headache than it's worth.
Thoughts on that?
I assume it is, however, easy enough for you to set up active links
between cross-referenced FAQs, right? Like the cross-reference to
Romance Pairings in my Hermione FAQ -- that would be an active link,
right?
Another Question: All of my FAQs thus far lent themselves to "essay"
form. I prepared them in Word, with footnotes for message #s, secondary
sources, page references, etc. I'm anxious to see how one of these will
format -- so can one of mine be the next test case? :--) The Religion
& Universal Appeal FAQs are probably the shortest ones that I've
written, although length may not matter to you.
I'm very excited about this -- full steam-ahead I say!
Penny
