I've converted the following FAQs to HTML from the base Word document.
Hermione Granger
Potential Romantic Pairings
Hogwarts
They have been placed in the files area under:
FAQs/HTML-ified/undressed
and have been named based on the filenames given in the master FAQ
list.
(All technical crud follows)
I've been dissappointed with the conversion tool in that:
1. Some formatting is lost mostly in the headings and
font size area
2. Indentation is messed up
3. Bullets are underlined
But I'm very glad that we don't lose the footnotes that Penny has
added. Every other method I tried deleted these--nice to have the
additional infomation.
About the converter tool:
It can still be downloaded at http://piper.ntua.gr/toolkit.html.
I've modified the output of the Piper program (with another program)
to remove font changes. They were adding a fixed font change on
every paragraph. Difficult to make global changes that way. I also
changed their style of superscripted footnote to use the bracketed
numbers.
In removing the superscript footnotes I also am removing any
superscripted text. Mainly I saw this in the items such as dates.
In all, converting a file such as the Hogwarts takes about 5 minutes
from .doc to .html.
The Piper program had only one flat-out conversion error. Italics
followed immediately by a footnote resulted in the <I> tag not being
closed so the rest of the document would be in italics. Not a big
deal, but if someone tries to use this some minimal edits may be
needed.
I'll be on the lookout for how easily these are incorporated and then
convert the rest of Penny's. Steve, if there are further things that
should be changed in what I'm providing you that would make your job
easier, let me know.
