Man, when you ask for somebody to de-lurk you ain't kidding.
Okay...here I go, taking the plunge...
Real name:
Gail Bohacek
Also known as:
Gandharvika (This is my spiritual name...er, Hi, I'm a Hare Krishna!)
Kylanthea...that is the name I typed in when I originally signed up for
Yahoo. It used to be the name of one of my favorite characters I played
when I was into Dungeons & Dragons. But stupid me, I spelled it wrong and I
don't think there is a way to correct it. The first posts I ever wrote to
HP4GU I signed as "Kylanthea", but people kept referring to me as "Gail" and
so I quickly nixed the alias. If anybody knows how I can change this name,
I would be forever in your debt.
Age/Sex:
33/F
Birthplace/Livingplace:
Born in Royal Oak, Michigan. Stayed in Ann Arbor, MI, when I was at
college. Then moved to downtown Detroit (you saw the movie "8 Mile"?
That's where I was, baby). Moved from there in April of 2003 to where I am
now in Philadelphia, PA (a much more healthy environment!)
Family Life:
Single. No boyfriends. Er...kinda sorta would like to get married but I'm
not desperate. Yet.
Personality:
Obsessive/compulsive
Words friends have used to describe you:
(I'm quoting Melody here) "Happy-go-lucky, cautious, honest, patient, good
listener"
Words you have used to describe you:
Bohemian (but *please*...not "hippy")
Things you do when not staring at the computer:
I listen to a lot of music (no surprise there, eh?) and I play a the bass
guitar (a little). I've just begun to learn how to ballroom dance... I
really dig the tango! Oh, I also do Bikram Yoga (What is that, you ask?
That's where you do yoga postures for 45 min. in a room where the heat has
been cranked up to 100+ degrees F.). I also read cookbooks for fun and I
dig running around in thrift stores. Oh, yeah, and I filk.
Comfort foods:
Crunchy stuff (chips and the like). ICE CREAM!!!! Brownies
Education/Work:
BA in Anthropology at the University of Michigan (practically useless but
really interesting!) / I'm a cook at a vegetarian restaurant and I also do a
little catering out of my apartment.
Language skills
English.
Technical know-how:
Less than Cindy
Favorite HP book:
So far, GoF...but I have a strong feeling that OoP is going to win me over.
Favorite HP character(s):
Snape. Moody. And Karkaroff amuses me for some reason.
Favorite HP line:
GoF, chapter "The Parting of the Ways"...I love that scene where Dumbledore
is telling Fudge that Lord Voldemort has returned which then culminates in
my all time
favorite line:
"There", said Snape harshly, "There. The Dark Mark. It is not as clear as
it was, an hour or so ago when it burnt black, but you can still see it..."
Oooooo! I *love* it!
Watching/Avoiding the HP movies?:
Watching, but the same way one watches a car accident as they drive by it on
the freeway. I know they are going to butcher it and it makes me MAD! But
I do love to see the still shots. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw
that picture of the Knight Bus that is there on the Main Page of this group.
Into HP fanfiction?
I'm a Fan Fic snob. There are a few that I like, though: Marina Frant's "A
Small Truce" is the best I've ever seen, and "Fall On Me" is in second place
http://www.sff.net/people/frants/hlfanfic.htm#hp
I've just begun the "Trouble In Paradise" series and would get into them
even more if I had more time.
Books you'd recommend to just about anyone:
The Bhagavad-Gita
Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers
Favorite TV shows?
Heh...I haven't owned a television in years. I'm *so* out of the loop. But
I did see an episode of
"CSI" at a friends house and if I had a TV I know I would be watching it.
But I can tell you about the TV shows of the past. Remember "Hill Street
Blues"? Classic! I also liked "Steinfeld".
Favorite movies:
Recent ones: "X-Men 2" (Nightcrawler ROCKS!) "Lord Of The Rings" (Both of
them)
Ones not so recent (not necessarily in this order): "The Princess Bride",
"Hunt For Red October", "A Hard Days Night", "Holiday Inn"
One thing about your life you'd change if you could you may not
say "lose weight."
Damn, I was going to say, "Loose weight".
Okay then, I wish I could have been easier on myself as I was growing up.
One thing about your life you wouldn't change even for an advance
copy of Book 7:
Making the move from Detroit to Philadelphia
Philosophy for an easy life:
Simple living and high thinking
How you found HPfGU:
Messing around with Google in a fit of boredom. This was not too long after
I made the discovery that I was not alone in my HP addiction.
Active at other HP sites:
Man, HP4GU takes up enough of my time as it is. If I were active anywhere
else I'd have to quit my job.
Your most rock solid OoP prediction:
Hagrid is toast.
Members of the fandom you have personally met:
Personally? As in, "Live and in Person" personally? Then none.
But looking forward to meeting a whole lot of ya's at Nimbus next month!
Add a question of your choosing and answer it:
What Else Would You Like To Know?
Well...one thing about me is that I have a hard time looking at computer
screens for any length of time. If I do, my eyes start to burn and I
develop headaches (just like now). I'm always looking away from the screen
at intervals. I also have a hard time retaining information that is on the
screen, especially long paragraphs. I end up printing out a lot of stuff.
Also, just about everything I write is first done in longhand and then I
type it out.
-Gail
