Las Vegas, Nevada - After months of plotting and conjuring (you
know, some spells take longer than others), we are proud to unveil
the official website for Lumos 2006: A Harry Potter Symposium!

Across the desert valley floor, neon signs and spotlights illuminate
Las Vegas, Nevada, welcoming adventurers from around the world. While
this City of Lights shines brightly, nothing will compare to the
radiance Lumos, alighting July 27 through 30, 2006.

Witches, wizards and Muggles alike are invited to join us in this
magical encounter sponsored by HP Education Fanon, Inc. (HPEF), a
non-profit organization devoted to exploring academic themes based on
the popular Harry Potter book series by British author J.K. Rowling.
Lumos will be HPEF's third academic symposium, with hopes of many
more to follow in the coming years.

Are you still in the dark about this grand event? More details await
you in the glow of your computer monitor at www.lumos2006.org. There you will read about the main academic and interactive programs being offered, as well as get a peek at the informal games and events that will enhance the Lumos experience. The website introduces future
attendees to our host hotel (sure to be a relaxing oasis from the
desert heat) and highlights the innumerable attractions both in and
around Las Vegas for those wishing to explore beyond the hotel.
Attendees interested in helping at the symposium will find various
volunteer areas guaranteed to delight the artistic and excite the
diligent as we work together, bringing this international event to
life.

Like the magical light that is conjured by reciting its namesake,
Lumos promises to be an enlightening experience, designed to stimulate
imaginations and discussion in a friendly atmosphere. This latest HPEF
event is crafted around a blend of workshops, lectures and seminars
for the discerning adult audience of educators, librarians, and
general fans of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter universe. Discussions
and debates will vary from literary criticism to scial sciences,
education to law, drawing upon the textual foundation, as well as the
cinematic adaptations and fandom culture that have flourished.
However, attendees should remember to set aside time to join in the
excitement of Water Quidditch, Magical Night Classes, Wizard Live
Chess, and a Hogsmeade Weekend trip to the Las Vegas Strip!

While official online registration will begin July 31, 2005, please
visit the symposium's website at http://www.lumos2006.org for details about registration, hotel and travel information, the programming schedule, and volunteer positions, as well as vendor and sponsorship
opportunities.

Let the darkness give way to the light and wonder that is Lumos 2006!

This symposium is an unofficial event, and is not endorsed by Warner
Bros., the Harry Potter book publishers or J.K. Rowling and her
representatives
