A somewhat bedraggled penguin in a cloak and comically bent wizards
hat wobbles up to the bar and squeakily requests a pint of stout. It
is often difficult to tell if penguins look shifty as they spy other
Catalogue staff in the pub, and indeed one might suspect an air of
forced casualness as they mutter phrases including "no fixed abode",
"occasional internet access" and the foreboding "imminent overseas
travel" to their pints in the alcove.

I'm no gambling penguin but if there isn't an unfortunate lack of
leading characters by the end of the series, Ms Rowling may well be
forced towards spinoffs of doubtful nature.
