The English version is usually just shortened to "sour grapes."  It 
comes from the Aesop's fable.

It could have been sour grapes on his part, but I am inclined to give 
him the benefit of the doubt.  Let's face it, he phrased it horribly.

Of course there is the possibility of the reporter pulling a "Rita 
Skeeter."  I am not suggesting they made it up.  I am pointing out 
that what he said may have been taken out of context to create a 
controversy.
