I do wonder though why Lily hadn't tried to run. If she knew that
Voldemort had come to her house, surely she knew she was tempting
fate to stay? Shuting the door was hardly going to keep him out, so
why didn't she try and make a run for it? - Unless she didn't feel
she (or Harry) were at risk?

I don't believe that Lily ran because she was at the top of the stairs when she saw Voldemort. There wasn't really any place for her to run. Granted she could have gotten out the window, but kind of hard to do, even with magic when you're trying to carry your son. I think she knew that that time there was no way to escape Voldemort and the best she could do was try to protect her child. As to why Harry was where he was when Voldemort pointed the wand at him, I believe that as Lily fell, she was still holding her child and she was starting to turn a bit as the curse hit her. Meaning, that she may have landed on her back and HArry had crawled off and sat up looking at Voldemort. Voldemort had no reason to rush with what he enjoyed most, killing and torturing... he had no idea that HArry would be his downfall.
