I just saw the movie for the fourth time (which I realize compared to many
of you is like barely having seen it at all), and since I have not
previously joined in commenting it, I'd just like to throw out a few
thoughts...
<My two favourite Harry line-deliveries are when 1)he mentions to the
Dursleys that his friends haven't written to him all summer (ah, can't you
just HEAR the tears in his voice--hurt and dissapointment--beautifully done)
and 2)he says "I think it's brilliant" of the Weasley home. I can feel the
profound delight and joy in his voice, that something as terrific as the
Weasley home could exist, which is especially terrific to Harry given his
background.
As for Crabbe and Goyle, I LOOOOOOOVE the performances of Jamie Waylett and
Joshua Hart-something, I can't recall his name right now, as transformed Ron
and Harry. That was brilliant if anything--nuanced and spot on (and the
quality of their performance came across all the more poignantly in
comparison to Felton's I'm sorry to say, altough I think his alright in
general).
>My LEAST favourite moment in the movie right now is that STUPID moment in
>the infirmary when Dobby has disappeared and Harry turns his hand over four
>times to see where he went--it looks like it belongs in a slap-stick
>context and I blame Chris Columbus for asking for it or keeping it in the
>movie like that. (I can't bear to blame Daniel Radcliffe for it, and I feel
>silly for it, but there it is...ultimately in the case of child actors it
>really is up to the director. Besides, Daniel IS Harry to me, even if
>Kloves occasionally has him say and do uh-harryish things, like shushing
>Ron in the forest...
(Now, who was it that complained bout Harry's ugly ankle a while back?
There's nothing wrong with Harry's ankle. OK, so it's a tad hairy, but
that's what tends to happen when boys his puberty, what's wrong with that?
Besides, I thought the sock-scene was one of the more successful
book-to-screen translations of the movie. Instead of having us follow Harry
from taking off the sock (as we do in the book)which is the start of that
little incident, Kloves unravels the incident backwards, which in this case
works better--it's more "filmic"--whew! I don't have time to try to explain
why, but I'm sure you get my drift anyway. I'm late for a lunch date,(and if
that seems odd compared to the time the message was sent, consider I'm
writing from Sweden...) so I'll have to come back to it if I have the
energy.

Time to stop rambling
Sophia
