I saw the post you refer to, so my idea really wasn't original. At the time
I wasn't converted to the "Colin Firth as Lupin" camp, so I ignored it,
thinking it impolite to flame. :) However, I have now seen the light and
stand solidly behind you!

Wasn't "The Look" in Pride & Prejudice enough to melt you? I'm thinking
specifically about the scene where his sister is playing the piano and
Elizabeth is turning the pages of the music for her; he's sitting on the
couch watching her.

As good an actor as he is, I would still be looking out for a love interest
somewhere.

And on that topic, does it seem like there's a shortage of available women
in the wizarding world? The women teachers are older ladies (McGonagall,
Madame Hooch in the movie--don't remember how she was described in the
books) or complete twits (Trelawney). The only women I can remember who
aren't teachers are Mrs. Weasley (married, obviously) and Rita Skeeter
(unsuitable for a variety of reasons).

Those of you who want Snape to have a love interest (which IMO would totally
ruin his character, but to each his own ship...), do you have any
candidates? Let alone Sirius, who totally deserves a good relationship, or
Lupin, who probably will never trust himself far enough to get close to a
woman, but that's another topic.
