I suppose if Dudley treated the room as a giant storge closet, there would be no
need to decorate it. And certainly the Dursleys wouldn't give Harry any "good"
furniture, special comforts, or decor.

When I first saw the Dursleys' living room (parlor? sitting room?) in the film, I
nearly screamed -- their wallpaper is the EXACT same as the wallpaper that
came with my house, which I bought from a rather Dursley-ish family!

I've done a 3-week home exchange in London, but that's the extent of my insight
into British homes -- what was it about the Dursley place that didn't seem right
to you? Was it something related to the books, or to the general Dursley-class
lifestyle?
