As I recall, it was rumored for a while that Hugh Grant would play
Lockhart--there was talk of him bleaching his hair because a wig
looked ridiculous. However, in a later interview (below) with Chris
Columbus, he said that these rumors were baseless and that Hugh Grant
had never been approached about the role.

See, the problem with a marketing juggernaut like the HP films is
that rumors are leapt upon with great fervor not only by the Internet
press, but by the printed press as well. So even in supposedly
reputable magazines, you can no longer blindly believe what you read,
because they do a lousy job of confirming sources. (And,
unfortunately, they are not often held culpable for this, because the
only way to do so is to lose faith in their journalistic reliability
and stop rewarding them with money.)

For another example, the rumor *still* persists that the original cut
of the PS/SS movie was four hours long, even though Columbus has said
several times (one such instance below) that there was no such four
hour cut. These rumors just don't die, even when they are proved
wrong.

Of course, I, in my skepticism, can't recommend trusting anything I
have said above, either. I could always be wrong. After all, as you
can see from the sources I provide, it's all just something I read
somewhere. :-)
