Let's not forget, she IS a witch!  She may be trying out knitting as 
a fun muggle hobby (rubbing off from Arthur).  Then, she eventually 
decides "oh the hell with it" and magics them to look better and to 
have cool pictures on the front.  That's what I'd do!
