Absolutely! Snape gets rid of him and McGonnagal immediatly follows
up with something along the lines of "Well that's him OUT OF THE
WAY." Then they get moving. (I'd look it up...just went to do so but
the books have all "mysteriously" disappeared into my son's bedroom!)
It was very clear that the staff had no intention of sending Lockhart
after the monster.
