I assume you mean Fortunes of War? (your certainty is my pleasure):-)
I never read the books, and have only vague recollections of the TV
series, which include that it was indeed good.
It's a pity they broke up - I know nothing about their personal lives
and problems but I thought they worked together very well -
everything they did together had a little frisson to it which was
well appreciated.

For reasons too long to go into (this is now getting very OT anyway)
last week, I had reason to borrow his and Orson Welles' versions of
Othello, both of which I watched twice in 24 hours. Whilst Welles was
undoubtedly one of cinema's true geniuses, I thought Ken did a pretty
good job and actually made a better *film* of the play than Welles
did. Welles' was just a little too "theatrical" for my taste,
although the B&W cinematography was absolutely exquisite.
And yes, I loved the tracking shots. :-)

I assume that you've found the Leaky Cauldron's set of screenshots by
now, given your technical difficulties? They're worth a look.
Having seen the Pixies (in action) my reservations remain and he
still doesn't seem quite (I'm not quite sure what word I'm looking
for) "foppish"... (?) enough as Lockhart. And I agree entirely. He
hasn't got anywhere nearly long enough hair. :-) (and no, I have no
reason to have been influenced by Fry!)

I have a friend coming up here from London on the 8th to spend some
time on the Saturday working on a common project. He's coming with
his wife, who I *think* is a HP fan, so if I'm impressed enough with
the movie after my 3.30 show, I may well drag them along for a repeat
performance in the evening when I pick them up from their train... :-)
