<Felicia stand up and clears throat>
A few passing comments about *diagonalley* and Harry speaking too clearly
for most listers set me thinking about the Weasley's fireplace, the size of
which is disputed, or at least not liked overmuch.
This is no ordinary fireplace this, the Weasley's have what I would call a
very substantial and old Hearth rather that a mere fireplace. [Hearth :
Dic. def. "the floor of a fireplace, particularly one that extends into the
room"....]
Now, while the hearth does not, for the literally minded (and there are
several lurking believe me....) extend into the room as such, it looks as
thought it could have been in situ for many generations which would make
sense if the Weasley family were a long established pureblood wizarding
family (they must be, Draco never flings the mudblood insult at Ron, his
worst barb at Ron is about poverty). Such hearths would be back in the UK
at least ;-) to medieval times when many homes had large fireplaces, it
being the only warmth (no I am NOT going to discuss old British history I
have ironing to do....)
While I suppose an ordinary, bog standard, regulation Victorian fireplace
would have sufficed, the current Burrow fireplace strikes me as infinitely
more cinematic, and it fits in very well with what I have seen of the
Burrow, so far. It is certainly not what I expected, but it is great Fun
nonetheless.
