Tcy (me):
June, I had the same problems in the beginning...I so dearly loved
the books that the only reason I saw the movies in the first place
was for my kids (ages 12 & 6). My gut reaction to the movies was to
retch...but then I realized that if I viewed them as a completely
separate entity from the books...they weren't so bad. I still have
my moments (Petunia being blond, Lucius uttering AK at Harry and now
Lupin looking too much like Pettegrew for my taste)...but all in all,
I try real hard to not compare them to the books.
I am hopeful that in a few years (5-10, perhaps) some well-funded
group (HBO if in the US or maybe even the BBC?) will take up the task
of creating a film version that is *true* to the books, rather than a
let's-hit-the-high-spots-on-film-so-we-can-cash-in-on-Pottermania.
Good luck making it through the publicity until the film's release in
June, 2004! Maybe we'll even have some good news about book 6 in the
meantime?
